You may be surprised to learn that out of a state population of just over a million, there are roughly 150,000 Montanans with disabilities who would qualify for our services. Although many individuals self-advocate, we receive far more requests for assistance
than we can accommodate. Thus, we are determined to find the means to grow our capacity to help more of those in need in a meaningful, long-term, and sustainable manner.

In light of this goal, it gives me great pleasure to introduce to you the Disability Rights Montana Charitable Endowment Fund our Board of Directors recently established. This Fund gives supporters like you the opportunity to make a legacy gift of any amount where the principal is preserved in perpetuity and the earnings from the fund are distributed in support of our charitable programs and services.

Please note that the Endowment Fund will consist of cash and other allowable assets to be held in keeping with DRM’s Investment Policy. The Fund will be managed in compliance with the Uniform Prudent Management of Institutional Funds Act (UPMIFA) and meet the requirements of Montana Code. And importantly, Montana law currently allows a state income tax credit of up to $10,000 per year for individuals or businesses making a planned gift of cash or other assets to a qualified endowment for the benefit of charitable organizations such as DRM! Through this unique tax credit incentive, a Montana taxpayer receives a reduction on the taxes s/he owes. To be sure that your
contribution qualifies for the tax credit, please consult with your tax or financial advisor.
